Concept note:
Underpinned by digitalization, interconnection and the growing ecosystem of digital technologies, digitalization is transforming our economies and societies by changing the ways people interact, businesses function and innovate, and governments design and implement policies.
The amount of information available on consumers and on the ecosystem in general, known as Big Data, suggests the advent of a new economic revolution commonly known as the digital revolution which is high on the Global Agenda.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is taking roots in the two shores of the Mediterranean. We are witnessing the beginning of the Artificial Intelligence era. AI is a revolution in the way economic policies are conceived and understood. Being aware of the issues, being among the pioneers to engage and invest in this technology can upset all the rules already established and the competitiveness of businesses and economies. Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence offers major business opportunities for industries, SMEs and start-ups and contributes to productivity growth.
To make the most of what AI can offer, the European Commission is already investing in research and innovation by putting forward a revolutionary approach to Artificial Intelligence and robotics. It deals with technological, ethical, legal and socio-economic aspects to boost research and industrial capacity and to put AI at the service of the economy.
BUSINESSMED, Union of Mediterranean Confederations of Enterprises, is joining the forces of the European Union on Artificial Intelligence and is now committed to intensifying these efforts.
In the framework of the EBSO MED project, Enhancing Business Support Organisations and Business Networks in the Southern Neighborhood, BUSINESSMED organized its first Roadshow under the theme Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence: The future of investment management in the Euro-Mediterranean Region.
Given the broad impact, digitalization is expected to have, the full participation of all actors including businesses, policymakers, consumer organizations, trade unions, and other representatives of the civil society to this event was essential. This one-day Roadshow gathered the actors of the Euromed Ecosystem to act as a multi-stakeholder meeting engaged in a broad and open discussion of all aspects of digital technologies and AI development
The Roadshow kicks off was an opening session, and the discussions focused on how Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence technological developments will shape the future of the Mediterranean Economies.
