Digital Transformation keynote in Portugal Smart Cities Summit
Portugal Smart Cities Summit is a meeting point for highly regarded experts from all over the globe.
The event was focused on the topic of transformational technologies and the latest business models that help revolutionize cities and industries, which has been widely regarded as a must if we are to progress as a whole.
The summit was held from May 21 to May 23, 2019, in the International Fair of Lisbon in Portugal. It received grand support from top Portuguese governmental figures and was sponsored by many tech giants, including IBM, Cisco, and Schneider Electric.
Ines was invited as an authority on the topic to participate in a discussion about digital transformation with Lara Fernandes from Cisco and Sarah Hanachi from Digitalis. The discussion was moderated by Paulo Coelho, the Director of IBM for Multicloud Services and Solution in Portugal on 22 May, 2019, right after the opening session by John Teixeira, the secretary of state for science, technology and higher education, and the keynote speeches by João Ricardo Moreira from IN, Arlindo Oliveira from IST, and Bernd Heinrichs, Executive VP & CDO Mobility Bosch.
Ines presented various aspects and concepts of digital transformation applied to future cities, and why is it crucial in this time and age.
A great case study she represented was Los Angeles, as it established its place as America’s #1 digital city for three years in a row. Los Angeles has many programs and initiatives, which Ines discussed several subjects, such as LA Open Data, LA Cyber Lab, OurCycle LA, Clean Streets Initiative, 311 Call Center and mobile app. Los Angeles also represents a definitive argument for the case of the cities of the future, as it was recognized by the American Center for Digital Government (CDG) on November 21, 2018, as the best among digitalized cities with 500,000 or more residents. This annual survey is in its 18th year now, and it recognizes cities that managed to employ technology to deal with various social challenges, enhance cybersecurity and the overall quality of life.
It’s worth mentioning that this isn’t the only conference that Ines presented, as she also discussed the essentials to be a successful woman in the world of technology and the challenges they face, on the third day of the summit, May 23.
