6 steps to improve Your SMO

Before looking at the 6 steps to improve your Social media optimization (SMO) let’s take a step back and highlight something that every business needs to know.

What is SMO?

SMO is designed to drive traffic from social media, It is similar to search engine optimization in that the goal is to generate traffic and awareness for a website.

These are Six steps to help you assess and plan your current SMO activity:

You need to build up your own reputation as a qualified source. You can do this by writing your own original material for example Blog, content, graphic, that is concise informative, and entertaining. Keep your profile(s) up to date,  Focus on the Quality, not quantity.

Encourage your users to share and to engage directly with you, and reciprocate by offering their own suggestions for linkages.   This can include commenting, mentions, shares, likes, and plus ones You can also encourage people to engage with a call to action, for example, if you find this article helpful please share it

Don’t think of engagement as just a single interaction with your customers.

Be as an expert in your field by writing knowledgeably about what you do.

Set yourself up in Google Authorship as a way to build up your authority in your field. Depending on how much and how often you write, when customer search for information in your field your name will come up too

Pave the way by being original and creative, be head of the pack, not the one trailing behind.

This means doing your research and incorporating the best elements and ideas of your competitors’ sites in a totally new, different, appealing, and entertaining way.

Add in links to other authoritative sites whose information can add value and another perspective to what you have to say.

Familiarize yourself with all the social media sub-cultures so that you communicate in the right way on each specific platform. The more personality there is behind your business’ profile, the more people will be willing to chat with you and be receptive to what you have to say.

Augment your performance by getting all the technical details right, no dead pages, no links that don’t work, no pages that take forever to load, or other dead-end situations.
